Understanding Color with Oil Paints

Youth [ages 10+] are welcome in this workshop to delve into the depths of oil painting focusing on color.  Students will be introduced to Studio Incamminati’s 23 color palette, for use in a series of painting exercises that will strengthen the student’s ability to recognize and mix color in the light and shadow with accuracy.  Utilizing Ilumi Bulbs [colored light] of different temperatures and brightness manipulated by iPad, and simple objects as well as casts, students will explore the effects of intense light on the local color of still life, with an opportunity to compare how differing light arrangements fundamentally change the color relationships of objects (the “light key”).

Class sessions will involve either the creation of two modest-sized oil studies per day with dialog centering on seeing value vs. color saturation as well as on paint handling.  The development of painting into clean, beautiful color notes for longer studies will also receive special attention.

Students will use two 12 X 16 inch toned canvas per day.  If desired, you can pay a $24 paint fee for the 23-color palette of oil paints rather than purchase all the paints (see full list below). Additional supply fee of $41 for brush, canvas, solvent, palette paper, etc. can be paid directly to the instructor on day 1.  The total supply fee is $65.
