Local jeweler and internationally recognized metal clay instructor, JJ Singh, will open her newly renovated studio for no more than 8 students interested in learning how to design and make sterling silver jewelry from scratch.
Students will be introduced to precious Metal Clay. PMC is a soft material similar to pottery clay, that can be manipulated with one’s hands, rollers, stamps, etc. When it is fired in a kiln at high temperatures, the metal clay turns into sterling silver jewelry. It seems like magic, but it’s science!
This 5-week, intensive introduction to fine silver metal clay* will cover basic techniques including rolling, stamping, cutting, forming, sanding and finishing.
Projects will include constructing and sizing a ring and setting a stone, designing earrings, and a pendant or charm. You will learn design concepts like how to sketch your ideas on paper, design considerations (weight, comfort, etc), how to texture and cut your clay, dry and wet assembly techniques, sanding, firing, polishing, oxidizing, and much much more.
*Materials fee is $150.00 and includes a basic toolkit and clay to get started on your first project. Additional clay available for purchase as needed at market pricing.
