Level II Color Study

February 25 - June 10

$260

Youth Ages 10-18  |  5 Sessions
[One Saturday monthly 2:30-5:30pm]
[Prerequisite: previous drawing class or teacher approval]
Instructor: Michela Mansuino

Session Dates – Feb. 25, Mar. 25, May 20, Jun. 10
[A $80 supply fee for all 4 classes can be paid directly to instructor at 1st class and includes paints. See other options below.]

This class will give students the opportunity to work in a full 23-color oil palette and learn to mix the colors that they see in brightly colored still life set ups under a variety of colored lights. The practice of color study ties in with traditional skill-based learning by enabling the student to paint in light key, the quality of all the colors in a painting relating to each other under the same light source, a technique employed by Monet.  Color study is a form of improving drawing skills. We use the Henry Hensche exercises practiced by Studio Incamminati.  These exercises strengthen the student’s ability to recognize and mix color in the light and shadow with accuracy. Students will use one 12 X 16-inch toned canvas per day. Students will have the option to pay a fee for the 23-color palette of oil paints rather than purchase all the paints (See list below).  To purchase the needed palette, it will cost about $120, OR you can pay an additional $50 paint fee to get the paints on your student’s palette for the 4 sessions.
