Photography for Everyone with Joe Willlmore
September 26, 2022 - November 7, 2022
$2006 Weekly Sessions | Mondays 4-6 pm in person
[No Class October 10th]
This class is tailored to each individual and their camera, from beginners to intermediate to experienced users or veteran photographers who have acquired a new camera or are restarting after time off from taking photos. Photo assignments will be individually based, lots of critiques and hands-on instruction in the class. Maybe you’re an artist who uses a camera to create reference photos. Or you’ve always wanted to photograph the flowers in your garden. Or take portraits of your pet. Or you want to evolve from taking snapshots to actually creating pictures. Or maybe you were given a camera and want to learn how to use it. This workshop is a hands-on practical look at how to learn to use your camera (ideally a DSLR but we’ll also look at mirrorless, point-and-shoot, and film).
The workshop will be limited to 6 participants and the instructor will provide individualized instruction on how to use your own camera with assignments for your level of knowledge and your camera. But it’s more than a “how to” training on using your camera. The focus is going to be on creating art (and which kind of art will vary with each individual).
We’ll cover key intro topics like ISO, aperture settings, and white balance as well as more complex topics like composition, photographic style, and post-processing software. Also, the numbers of participants is limited, so everyone can get lots of individualized attention. This is also a good course if you’re thinking of upgrading your camera or equipment.
Every session (except the first one) will involve sharing portfolios and assignments as well as photo critiques. All participants will have out of class assignment (which will vary with the individual but will share key principles like: utilizing depth of field, quality of light, white balance and tone, composing your photo). This class is very interactive and hands-on.
