Art Talk Title: “Imagination on the Page: Comic Art, Creativity and Childhood”

 

This illustrated lecture will provide a historical overview exploring themes of childhood, imagination and the creative impulse in American comic art of the twentieth century.

 

Katherine (Kerry) Roeder is a professor in the history of art, design and visual culture at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her specialty is graphic illustration and print culture. Prior to joining MICA she was a guest curator and Luce curatorial fellow at the Smithsonian's National Asian Art Museum. In 2024 she co-wrote A Tale of Two Balconies, which is a close examination of two artworks by James McNeill Whistler and Katsushika Hokusai.
