The Geometry of Flowers: Celebrating the traditions of The Golden Age of Botanical Illustration (1750-1850), this all-levels watercolor painting class will explore the steps to create a 12” x 12” illustrated botanical illustration plate. Our daily practice will include the study of a flower or plant provided for that week. The class will emphasize strong drawing skills of correct perspective using grids and studying the mathematics of the petal relationships. Before painting, we will make sketch observations, measurements, and use a box- system of confirming proportion. After getting our drawing as accurate as possible, we will then trace and transfer using carbon paper to create a final illustrated botanical plate. By the end of the session, each student will work towards one final botanical plate on 300 g cold press watercolor paper mounted on a wooden frame sealed in beeswax, ready for display or sale.
