Painting with Pastels - Jean Wolf
Tuesdays 11:30am - 1:30pm. All levels welcome!
Description
Join Jean in honing your skills and recognizing your individual style in the growing, beautiful medium of soft pastels. This class will address basics like composition, mark making, the importance of edges, with a focus on sketching to identify simple shapes and values. As a recently retired graphic artist, Jean will also feature instruction of digital tools, including Procreate and Notan. This class is for all levels. Basic drawing skills recommended. Materials required Pastels: a collection of around 100-125 pastels, varying in levels from hard to soft, high saturation/chroma to neutrals, and a good range of values in each color (light to dark). Paper surfaces. We’ll be exploring various surfaces in the class. Bring your favorite to the first class. If you don’t have a favorite, I recommend UArt 500 grit as a good standard option. Sketchbook. Any size that’s comfortable for you. I use mine for sketching and note taking. Grayscale markers. I recommend 4-5 distinct values. Tombow is a good brand. Black Ink Pen. There are many out there. I use Pigma Micron in various sizes, 005-01. White Pen. I use a Gelly Roll for finer lines and a Faber-Castell Pit Artist Pen for thicker marks. Masking tape iPad (optional but encouraged if you have one) Contact Information Instagram: @jeanbateswolf Facebook: @jean.wolf.fine.art Website: jeanwolffineart.com Email: jeanwolfarts@gmail.com Based in Herndon, Virginia, Jean Wolf is an artist working in soft pastels, oils, and watercolors.
